Michael O. Hardimon is professor of philosophy at UC San Diego. He works in the critical philosophy of race, 19th Century German Philosophy (especially Hegel), and has a long-standing interest in role theory. He is broadly interested in continental philosophy, social and political philosophy, ethics, and the nature of the self. He is the author of Rethinking Race: The Case for Deflationary Realism (Harvard University Press 2017) and Hegel's Social Philosophy: The Project of Reconciliation (Cambridge University Press 1994). Prior to coming to UC San Diego in 1995, Hardimon taught at MIT (1987-1995) and Harvard University (1985-1987). He was a Fellow in Ethics at the Program in Ethics and the Professions at Harvard University (1993-1994). He received his PhD from the University of Chicago in 1985 and his BA (cum laude) from Wesleyan University in 1989.
