LEIBNIZ
ARTICLES
Marcelo Dascal, Language in the Mind's House
(Discusses Leibniz's theory of language in relation to Descartes, Hobbes,
and McRae's interpretation; takes a detailed look at the difference
between
human and animal sensory and intellectual capacities-including feeling,
memory, distinct and symbolic knowledge, and the communicative and
psychotechnical functions of language.)
Richard Arthur, Infinite Aggregates and Phenomenal Wholes: Leibniz's
Theory of Substance as a Solution to the Continuum Problem
(Concentrates on some papers Leibniz wrote in Paris in February-April
of
1676; argues that bodies are infinite aggregates because they are
infinitely divided, and phenomena because they are not unities; maintains
that Leibniz upheld commitment to corporeal substances throughout the
mature period.)
Paul Lodge, The Failure of Leibniz's Correspondence with De Volder
(Presents an overview of the De Volder correspondence based around the
main
concern that precipitated the interchange -- De Volder's desire for
a
naturalistic account of substantial activity. Shows how disagreements
over
methodology and the nature of extended reality finally put an end
to De Volder's hopes of obtaining such an account from Leibniz.)
